KEPCO INGS CAMPUS_The KEPCO INGS campus design competition from Korea Electric Power Corporation was selected. The competition was to create the ideal educational environment, inducement of outstanding domestic and foreign personnel, and creation of symbolic images of Korea Electric Power Corp. by building a world-class graduate school of international atomic energy. The site, near the ocean and a nuclear plant complex, has advantages through its environment. Various green design methods were introduced to create a global graduate school and an energy efficient campus using renewable energy as an environmentally friendly landmark. The best dwelling environment and efficient space planning for all the students and faculty members were factored in the design. The campus was decided to be designed like a resort for students and faculty members living in dormitories, with the environmental benefit of being on an open site by the ocean. The design definitely provides pleasant surroundings for all users residing on the campus, helps raise competitiveness and improves the public image of the university. A long layout of the residence was decided to secure an ocean view, and three separate buildings were designed to improve the efficiency of circulation. Thus, all rooms have fine view to the ocean. A proposed roof as part of the green plans is a roof-integrated photovoltaic system which increases the energy efficiency of building. Natural light enters the hallway and basement via a daylight duct system. Also, the rooftop garden was designed to collect rainfall for landscaping and cleaning purposes. The natural ventilation and insulation effect are improved by the double roof structure.
